Welcome to our first QTalks blog.
QTalks is a series of conversations, presentations and meetups we will be hosting for all Qubytes (that’s what we call Qubit employees) designed to broaden horizons, raise awareness and get inspired.
We want to invite people who have had incredible experiences, are experts in their field, or have overcome massive challenges, and ask them to share their stories and wisdom. We’ll be discussing the best bits in our upcoming blogs.
Too often we can become blinkered by our surroundings and the day-to-day. QTalks is designed to break out of that and make sure we, as a team, are learning from those outside of the walls of a fast-growth technology company. Even as a market leading personalization company headquartered in the heart of Covent Garden in London, with 6 global offices, breakfast and lunch provided, private health and dental insurance and much, much, more, it is all too easy to underappreciate what we have.
So I thought to myself ‘What if I could convince inspirational people from all industries, and walks of life, to come to Qubit and share their stories?’. The intention is to put the challenges we sometimes face into perspective. In return, Qubit will make a donation to a charity of the speakers choice—a win-win-win for everyone involved.
The first QTalk - Matthew Flood
With London Pride 2018 taking place next weekend, there’s no better time or reason to launch QTalks than with a topic very close to my heart—the issues surrounding the LGBTQ community.
Our first speaker is Matthew Flood, the global general counsel at Ingeus, a company founded to help people realise their potential. I first met Matthew at a mutual friend’s wedding in Ibiza and we hit it off from there. Now we both play for the London Raiders, an LGBT Softball team.
Matt has developed an exceptional record for promoting workplace diversity and was named in the FT’s Top 100 list of LGBT Executives between 2013 - 2015. As well as Ingeus, he’s also worked for companies such as BP, SABMiller and Balfour Beatty.
The first QTalk will be on the 6th July. Matt will be sharing his story about what it means to be out and proud in the workplace.
What's next for QTalks?
This is just the start. The QTalks programme is set to continue on a cadence of (approximately) 1 per month.
Keep an eye out for the latest updates on the blog and if you, or someone you might know, would be interested in featuring in a QTalk then please send me a note: firstname.lastname@example.org
